2017 so far…
After an impressive start to the 2017 season, first of all joining Top Gun Racing Team..
When this match was annouced Dan said :
“I am so happy to be riding with Wurz and the Top Gun team in 2017. Wurz is not a salesman, he’s a hands on team manager and a very genuine guy.
Already he has under promised and over delivered in many ways, my kind of guy! How he has grown the Top Gun team over the last few years is a great story and it will be a real team effort to achieve good results.”
Top Gun Racing, Team Owner, Adrian Cox MBE, added:
“Dan was our number one choice for 2017 as his ability and his desire to win are unquestionable.
We believe that with Dan and Honda- we have a winning combination.”
Joining the Top Gun Racing team also meant moving over to Honda bikes. Having the CBR1000 and CBR600 between his legs.
His debut at the Olivers Mount circuit in April couldnt have been better. With podiums for each of the races he entered and an impressive 2nd place in the Bob Smith Spring Cup race. Dan lapped within 1.5 of the lap record around the course and managed to beat both of his personal bests!
Following on from this, the North West 200… Dan returned as 2016’s fastest newcomer…. with the north west, came the rain! Dan and the team struggled with top speed on the 600, despite having an impressive angine. The Stocker didnt have the power to keep up with the BMWs and Kawasakis around that course, nonetheless, Dan still enjoyed riding the Stocker. The strongest bike was the Superbike, frustratingly though, due to the weather, Dan was only able to get out on the bike a handful of times. Overall though, it was great preparation and practice before the main event..
After lots of preparation following the North West, Dan went with high hopes, only to have the same issues as the NW – RAIN! the isle of man suffered the worst weather during the TT weeks in a long time, resulting in no track time and extremley frustrated riders. When Dan got the change to go out on the bike, the conditions were described as damp and VERY windy! The bikes didnt run as smoothly as Dan and the team could have hoped, but improvements were being made each time around the course
During practice week Dan said :”This place is unique for a set-up”
Things were looking promising with an 8th finish in the Senior practice. However, Dan managed to get through both engines for the Superbike, meaning when it came to the main event – Senior Race Day. Dan had to enter on his Superstock bike. This still saw him gain an impressive 14th place!
The engine issues resulted in Dan having to pull out of the following Olivers Mount meet.
After much hard work from Dan and the team, they managed to get an engine in time for the Southern 100 – which he did. And finished the Senior race in 9th place.
Unfortunately, whilst taking part in Moto Time Attack at Cadwell Park after the Southern, Dan obtained an injury, which meant he would be unable to attend the Barry Sheene Festival at Olivers Mount. Dissapointing given Dan’s amazing results at the Scarborough track. After some time out and rest, he is ready to get back on the roads at the Ulster GP this August, after coming home last year as the fastest newcomer, Dan is keen to go back to the course and show what he can do on these Hondas!
After the Ulster, Dan is certain to be at the Classic TT and the final Scarborough meet of the season – The Gold Cup – After missing 2 meets at the Scarborough track this year, Dan is detirmined to get back there and keep his name and achievements at the top of the list. After last years pole position start at the Gold Cup, its looking good.
Macau GP still hasnt been confirmed.
